This course covers the period from the Reformation through the beginning of the "double revolutions" of the end of the eighteenth century. Students will read a number of texts from different fields of study, from the social sciences, the history of ideas, the arts and literature, in order to understand the development of ideas about the human person, the state and society during this period. The Humanities sequence is central to the undergraduate curriculum here and the coursework makes many connections to other subjects the student will be studying at the same time.
